Community-Centered Health Assessment

All residents are invited to participate in Alexandria Health Department’s 2024 Community Health Assessment, beginning with a kick-off event on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at Patrick Henry Recreation Center. This year-long assessment process examines a wide variety of health data and creates conversations with community members to understand their experiences.

All Alexandrians must have the opportunity to thrive. Community conditions, like structural racism and all forms of discrimination, along with neighborhood factors such as housing, parks, and grocery stores impact Alexandrians’ health. Health data reflects these impacts, but the data alone does not tell the full story. The community assessment is your chance to weigh in on what health issues you experience, and what matters most.

Alexandria Health Department will host the 2024 Community Health Assessment Kick-Off Event on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., at Patrick Henry Recreation Center (4753 Taney Ave., Alexandria, VA 22304). Outdoor and indoor activities will be available for kids ages four and older.

Attendees will learn about the Community Health Assessment process, how it will impact the community, and ways to participate. Attendees will also hear how they can get involved with the Department of Community and Human Services’ Children and Youth Community Plan and Alexandria City Public Schools’ Strategic Plan.

The event is open to the public. Join in for a free boxed meal and activities for kids. Interpreters in Spanish, Amharic, and Dari will be available. Other language interpretation is available upon request in advance.

Register online or call 703-244-5654.

The Community Health Assessment results will inform Alexandria’s next Community Health Improvement Plan. To review the last assessment, visit the Community Health Assessment & Improvement Plan website
